The tragedy in Haiti goes beyond words, and beyond our worst nightmares. There is no true consolation...

The tragedy in Haiti goes beyond words, and beyond our worst nightmares. There is no true consolation in these moments; there is only the strength to keep moving, which we mysteriously find in ourselves and others. We are all in this together. Always. My beautiful friend and colleague, Rodney Gardiner, wrote lyrics after his family on Turks and Caicos endured Hurricane Hanna and were unreachable for far too long. I was honored to put those lyrics to music and create BUSY. May his heartfelt words remind us that, though pain is universal, so too is love and healing. Donate to the American Red Cross.

#9 is a dizzying new music theater piece about the technological tools we use – and how they use us. Here, Waterwell dives into a strange, bewildering world of digital immersion where the virtual is more real than reality.

#9 premiered at the 59E59 Theater in the summer of 2009 and was called “UPROARIOUS! Featuring a quartet of fearless performances, Off-Broadway’s a better place with Waterwell online” by the Village Voice.

Early in the production, Kevin Townley and Matt Dellapina perform the piece “Swimming Pool,” as Kevin’s character recounts the tale of the-one-that-got-away. (This demo recording features Lauren)

In the production, this piece “Busy Tone” was performed by David Ryan Smith, with lyrics by Rodney Gardiner, as inspired by his own fear and frustration when not able to contact his family on Turks and Caicos during Hurricane Hannah. In composing this piece, a sampled busy signal was mapped to a midi keyboard via Logic so that the signal itself could be played as live accompaniment during the performance. (This demo recording features Lauren)
