Off To Make “The Wizard …”

Lauren and Waterwell are off to Indiana University for a whirlwind adventure!

Bringing such NY/LA actors as Jordan Gelber and Nicole Parker along with us, we’ll be working with IU students and faculty to bring to life our newest piece: “The Wizard of Wall Street.” It’s a musical about the financier/railroad executive Jay Gould, known to some as the “Mephistopheles of Wall Street” and the “Robbingest of the Robber Barons.”

Thanks to support from Premiere Musicals and Eli Lilly, Waterwell and Indiana University have teamed up to devise our brand new piece about little known robber baron Jay Gould. We’ve cast our brilliant student performers and are now hosting a week-long devising workshop with them at our beloved alma mater. Performances at IU will be in late August. But New Yorkers will be getting sneak peeks of material before then. Stay tuned!

Back Home Again In Indiana … polis

Lauren returns to her hometown for a performance with The Cabaret at The Columbia Club on Friday April 23rd at 8pm. She’ll be joined on stage by a full band, including Indy natives Jack Helsley, Nate Johnson, and Jeff Devine. Call 317.275.1169 or click here for tickets.

That same week, she’ll be facilitating master classes with local students about the science (and joy) of songwriting, all thanks to a wonderful grant from Meet The Composer.

The Gemini Comes to the Twin Cities!

On March 8th and 9th, Lauren will be performing her music in Minneapolis/St.Paul through the beautiful and ground-breaking Nautilus Music-Theater series, Rough Cuts. The first half of each night will include music from her theater work, as performed by the incredibly talented Ann Michels, JP Fitzgibbons and Jerry Rubino. The second half will be a solo performance by Lauren, including brand new pieces.

The tragedy in Haiti goes beyond words, and beyond our worst nightmares. There is no true consolation in these moments; there is only the strength to keep moving, which we mysteriously find in ourselves and others. We are all in this together. Always. My beautiful friend and colleague, Rodney Gardiner, wrote lyrics after his family on Turks and Caicos endured Hurricane Hanna and were unreachable for far too long. I was honored to put those lyrics to music and create BUSY. May his heartfelt words remind us that, though pain is universal, so too is love and healing. Donate to the American Red Cross.

Meet The Composers Award

Lauren is a newly anointed recipient of the Meet The Composer Award for her upcoming workshops and performances in Indianapolis in spring 2010.

Lauren’s composition, inspired by the recent work of incredibly talented artist Eric March, will continue to be played at the Park Slope Gallery in Brooklyn, NY for those who make an appointment. It will also soon be available on this site to accompany a slideshow of his gorgeous paintings.

Lauren is asked to join BMI’s Lehman Engel Musical Theater Workshop

Lauren was accepted into BMI’s acclaimed workshop for composers, lyricists and librettists. This workshop has produced some tremendous talent in the past, including “Avenue Q,” “Next to Normal,” and “A Chorus Line.” Let’s hope history repeats itself!

Lauren and Waterwell celebrate IT Award nominations for their 2005 production The Persians: a comedy about war with five songs — a production deemed ‘Brilliant’ by the NY Times. The nominations are for Best Original Music Composition, Best Choreography, and Best Musical. Please cast YOUR vote at www.nyitawards.org — winners announced in September.
